this week in five.

1. breathtaking skies.
Is it a thing that the colder it gets, the more beautiful the sky becomes? Well if it isn't, then maybe I'm just noticing it more. Taking a leisurely stroll around Central Park in the afternoon really helps one appreciate.

good eats: brownie payback

Last night, as I was walking home in the dark and cold, I ducked into a grocery store to grab a couple of things. The only thing I came out with was a packet brownie mix.

You know how they say you shouldn't go grocery shopping when you're hungry? I'd like to add to that, you also should avoid it when you're cold and tired. When your finger tips are freezing and your eyelids are heavy, there's only one thing on your mind: buttery, chocolatey baked goods, as fast as possible please.

So that happened. I came home, I made the brownies, and just like that, dinner was made.
What I'm trying to say is I had brownies for dinner.
Now if there's one thing I've learnt from one of my favourite food bloggers, Joy the Baker, it's that when you have brownies for dinner (which is totally okay... sometimes.) you become in debt to yourself, for which payment is only accepted in leafy-green-salad form.

With that in mind, I wandered into my kitchen this morning, realised I had purchased a bunch of radishes on a whim last week, and knew exactly what to do! I'm literally eating this salad as I write this, and I can tell you: it doesn't taste like brownie payback at all– just a bowl of tasty goodness, bonus!

this week in five.

1. Rain-drippies on my window.
I kind of like that the weather is getting a little chillier. My coats are just itching to weasel their way out of the back of the closet and the rain gives me an excuse to stay indoors and make hearty stew.*

hurricane checklist.

Everyone is very concerned with making lists of things you need to have in preparation for Miss Sandy, who is currently descending on New York City– bottled water, flashlights, canned food, you know the drill. But I just think they're missing the point a little.

a thing I thought: on food and art.

I love food. You’ll learn that as we get to know each other a little better. I love cooking it, I love eating it, but I also love looking at it.

Food in art has kind of been a thing forever. I mean still life paintings? There's food. And it's in art. And it's toooootally super old.

But I think recently, the relationship between food and art has become a little more diverse than some scarily realistic fruit on a canvas. I feel like everywhere I turn there's another example of food and art hanging out and producing something pretty cool. Here are some of my favourites...

do it ourselves: picture hanging

This little project took me all of half an hour, and very little brain-power (the whole thing was done while watching the most recent episode of downton abbey.) It's so simple, and I really love the crafty-effect it has (almost as much as I love how cheap and quick it is compared to framing!)
